The following committee has been assembled to implement the new programs at Garibaldi.

Here are some notes from the meeting held August 26 (source: Diane Wilmann)

- 48 kids registered for typical school program – 5 other parents interested and more messages left – good start

- Bit of a problem with getting info out – we had lots of questions at Frog Hollow but with the school closed staff here were concerned that families might have got lost along the way. Hopefully strong communication will be set up this year to ensure no one gets lost in the registration process. At this point no home learners have registered – the VSB website still needs updating and hopefully we can update the flyer as the new programs evolve and get copies asap and start actively engaging and outreaching to the whole community.

- daycare – currently under development – will not be happening in the Fall. Afterschool care maybe possible through Britannia with pick up of kids from Garibaldi.

- Room allocation underway

- Staff hiring underway – new home learning teacher should be hired by the end of the week – job description developed incorporated learning from New West visit

- Debrief of New West visit - inspirational and we have a lots of work to do

- Update from VLN – slightly lower than typical enrollment – this year developmental with gradual transfer to Garibaldi site

- Strong Beginnings will go ahead in the Fall at Garibaldi

- Brief discussion of Gait membership and need to confirm and stabilize the committee. Need to make clear the structure and relationship between GAIT and Friends of Garibaldi.

The next GAIT meeting will be held September 24, 4-5:30 PM, at Garibaldi Annex.
